Apart from making new instruments, we also take care of old string instruments whose owners entrust us with their repair.

The term "restoration" encompasses all the actions aimed at fostering the perception, appreciation and understanding of the instrument. These measures are only implemented if the instrument has partially lost its meaning or function due to previous amendments or destruction. In such a case, the principles of the respect for the original and its history as well as of the reversibility apply. After thorough inspection of the instrument to be restored, we discuss our working steps with with the client, upon their confirmation a respective timeline is established. In general, restoration should not be constrained by deadlines. "Healing" an instrument also takes time and patience.

This violin had a bad accident. It fell out of the musicians hand and landed bridge-faced on the floor.

With the clash the bridge was pushed through the top and caused a hole.

After gluing the cracks, we made a plaster cast to have a perfectly fitted bed for the violin.

Now we had to close the hole. For the annual rings not to stay interrupted we removed a very fine wooden chip from the original top and glued it with extraordinary diligence over the hole.

The fragile area was then reinforced with a thicker chip of wood.

As the exact fitting of the patch was done it was easily glued on with assistance of the plaster cast.

Finally the varnish was retouched and the violin set-up to be played.
